Old Fashioned glasses (also known as whiskey glasses, or Lowball glasses) have a wide rim with a thick bottom and generally hold between 180ml and 300ml (between 6oz and 10oz). These glasses allow certain solid ingredients of the cocktails they contain to be mashed directly into the glass with a pestle. Old Fashioned glasses are usually used for short cocktails or spirits alone, such as whiskey, with ice cubes (called “on the rocks”).
